Futures tracking Canada’s stock market inched higher on Monday, despite the collapse of trade talks between the United States and Canada. Prime Minister Carny pledged to match U.S. tariffs after Washington imposed 50% duties on selected Canadian goods on Saturday. The new tariffs cover furniture, plastics, plywood, and electrical equipment, and come on top of existing levies on steel, lumber, and autos.

Equities still advanced as rising gold prices bolstered mining shares, positioning the sector to extend its recent rally. In contrast, oil prices slipped as investors took profits following a sharp weekly surge, offering some relief to financials and the broader market, both of which have been weighed down by concerns over energy-driven inflation.
